- Plaintiff, it is now time for the opening statement.
- My client, Liam Lopez, was serverely injured, underwent surgery, and is currently on life support as a result of the abusive behavior of the defendant, Mr. George Feeny.
- Your Honor, members of the jury, I am Attorney Ashley Smith, representing the prosecution in this case.
- The facts of this case are clear. Evidence indicates that on July 14, 2022, around 11:00 p.m., Mr. Feeny went to the student dormitary where the victim wa staying.
- A security video shows the defendant and the victim engaging in a violent altercation, resulting in the defendant strangling Mr. Lopez. They then departed at 11:35 p.m. after Mr. Feeny confirmed the victim was uncoscious.
- As a result, the victim was so short of breath that he had to undergo heart and lung surgery. Therefore, I ask the defendant to face both inflicting of bodily harm and murder.
- Objection, Your Honor! There is evidence that my client, Mr. Feezy, physically harmed the victim.
- However, the victim was till breathing when the defendant left the scene shortly therafter.
- The reason the victim is now in critical condition is because during surgery on the night of July 15, 2022, a surgeon accidentally cut the aorta.
- This increased pressure on the veins and reduced blood flow. As of July 18, 2022, the victim is still unconscious and is currently on life support.
