  • Siddhartha Gautama was a prince born in the 6th century BCE at Lumbini of India., so they consult an astrologer. After looking at the stars, the astrologer said he will either become a powerful king if you or a holy man and the kingdom will collapse.
  • His dad tries to help him to become a king like himself, so he protects him from poverty, sickness, ageing and death. One day, he drives his cart outside the palace area. There, he sees a sick man, an old man, a beggar monk and a corpse.
  • He is very upset after seeing how ordinary people live. He does not want himself and others to suffer, so he has to search for enlightenment. He leaves the palace without waking his wife and son up.

  • He cut his hair and change his clothes. He also asked a lot of wise men for advice on how to live, but he doesn't get any good answers. So he decided to not eat anything. He starve himself like a beggar monk, an ascetic. But after a woman gave him some food, he realise this won't bring any comfort.
  • He decides to meditate until he finds a solution on how to avoid suffering. Nothing will make him move. An evil demon called Mara appears to tempt him. It offers him lots of great things, but he tries to stay put.
  • After mediated for 49 days, he realises something. Humans are never satisfied. They always wanted more. And that wanting to have more never ends, therefore suffering never ends. Being rich and poor or too exaggerated ways of living, so you must follow the middle way. He wants more people to realise this now he is Buddha-meaning enlightened. After he died, his disciples past on his teachings.
