they get invited to a prestigious ball its a very hard invite but they are poor and Matilde doesn't want to be embarrassed amongst other rich women. she asks for money for a dress

she is sad because she has not one stone to wear. She goes to her rich friend and asks to borrow some jewelry to wear. Nothing sticks out except for a diamond necklace she asks to borrow it and her friend says Yes!
Resulotion
she goes to the ball and is the prettiest one there even the minister noticed her but the only problem tonight had nothing to do with being poor she lost her friends diamond necklace

they find a diamond necklace just like the other one and it is 36,000 francs so Loisel borrows a lot of money and takes 18,000 out of his inheritance he makes up the money and gets to the jewelrs and buys the necklace back .
she has to work for 10 years to pay it off but one year she comes across her old friend her friend doesn't reconize her and madame Loisel decides to come clean about the necklace after a chat about it madame Forestier say mine was imitation it was worth at most 500 francs
