- King Henry VIII was the king of England from 1509-1547 married to Catherine of Aragon, starting his reign at the age of 18. Henry grew up a devout Catholic.
- Young woman in her 20s of the court Anne Boleyn, had caught Henry's eyes.
- Catherine could not provide Henry with the male heir that he dreamt of. As Henry could not provide Henry with a male to the throne, Henry wished for a divorce.

- Henry's request to divorce his wife Catherine of Aragon was denied by Pope Clement
- VI. This disapproval led Henry to start to los faith in the Catholic Church.

- Henry's aim to have his marriage dissolved was denied, causing him to call the Reformation Parliament'. This call for reformation was in hope for Henry to be able to remarry and get the male son that he aspired.
