  • Hey can you teach me how to use Product of Powers?
  • Yes! It can help both of us prepare for the test!
  • So 3 is the base and 4 is the exponent?
  • 1) Let's start with the value 3 to the power of 4 is written as, where 3 is the base and 4 is the exponent.
  • Yes!
  • Ah! Yes Product of Power
  • For example in 4^3 the base is 3 and the exponent is 4 Or the base is x+1 and the exponent is 4
  • 1) Remember the exponent is the number at the top of the base . It is the power to which it is being raised.
  • Ahh! Yes! The Product Rule.
  • 1) Now, when the base is the same and they are being multiplied, let's say " a^6 * a^3", then the exponents are added. So the answer would be a^6+^3 = a^9.
  • 1) So when two exponents with the same base are being divided like "b^10/b^ 7" the opposite is done. So it would be subtraction! b^10-^7 = b^3.
  • Exactly! It is known as the quotient rule!
  • 1) Please remind me what power to power rule is
  • Well, if we have (x^3)^5, the power is being raised to a power so we multiply the exponents together. So it would be x ^3 * ^5 = x^15. I like to look at if they are separated by a parentheses.
