- Hi! My name is Kelz Botero and my thoughts on Ginas story has really opened my mind and educated me in areas when it comes to people with disabilities and Special Education in general. After reading and presentation, I have learned the idea that people with disabilities shouldn't be treated different from everyone else! And, how me as an educator should show the same unconditional love and support as I would for any other student.
- I believe that we as a society tend to focus on the weaknesses when it comes to children in disabilities but both the reading and presentation has taught me to empathize and recognize the strengths instead. It has encourages me to be an advocate for them and see them for the real person that they are instead of believing on set ideas on the outcomes of their disability. They are people with feelings too.
- The four ways that I would help parents share their voice as a teacher would be1. Networking all the parents in a group chat so they can have the freedom to share their ideas on what can better support students with disabilities.2. Gather a bunch of parents to form a Team with the goal to share their voice to influence other parents.3. Make Collaborations and projects on special education that will include parents to participate.4. Bringing awareness by hosting PTA meetings, fundraisers, and etc to make the parents more involved when it comes to education.
