  • In chapter 1 , Ponyboy got jumped by a couple of socs when he was walking home from the movies, and this was the first actor violence shown in the book. This is a part where the Socs had been violent for no reason and did it intentionally.
  • In the 3rd chapter, Ponyboy got home late after accidentally falling asleep in the parking lot/park. Then Darry got really mad at him because he was worried about him, and out of rage slapped him across the face. This was a surprise to all 3 brothers, and Ponyboy ran out in shock and wanted to run away. This was violence as expressing anger but regretting it right after.
  • In chapters 3-4, Ponyboy and Johnny are in the park after Pony says he wants to run away. Then they find the socs (Bob and Randy) coming their way because Johnny and Pony were hanging out with their girlfriends (Cherry and Marcia). The socs start beating them up and start drowning Pony, with nothing else to do Johnny stabs Bob. This was where everything changed with violence and in the whole book. Violence in this scene was both intentional (socs) and defense (Johnny).
  • In chapter 6, the church that Ponyboy and Johnny were hiding out in had caught on fire. They thought that it was their fault because maybe they had dropped a cigarette. There were kids trapped in the church and they went in the church to save them while doing that johnny pushed Pony out a window to save him from catching on fire, but in return, Johnny had broken his back. This was kind of violence of nature, although it could have been made by Pony and Johnny it was still accidental.
  • This was the scene of the rumble, which happened in chapter 9. This was a fight arranged by the greasers and the socs and the greasers did end up winning because the socs ran off scared. This is also just straight-up violence because they had a fight using only fists no additional tools.
  • This is a scene from almost the end of the book (chapter 10) and probably the last big act of violence. It's a very sad part in which Dally practica;;y committed suicide, he robbed a store and that made the police go after him, then he pulled out a gun that wasn't loaded bu the police didn't know this. They ended up shooting him, and he did all that because Johnny had died and he couldn't live with it, he cared so much for him and Johnny was the only person Dally loved. This type of violence had many acts in the as intentional, sad, and the only way.
