- Jude sitting alone because she was called beautiful and didn't believe it.
- Jude didn’t like getting compliments because she would feel like they were out of pity, “She hated being called beautiful. It was the type of thing people only said because they felt they ought to” (Bennett 119) .This shows how self conscious Jude has become from being in Mallard too long. She doesn’t believe in genuine compliments and feels like they don’t mean anything.
- Jude would cry behind the baseball field to get her feelings out, "Sometimes, when she circled behind the baseball dugout, she felt Lonnie Goudeau staring. She ran with a hitch in her gait— ungraceful and uneven, a bad habit Coach tried and failed to correct" (Bennett 100). Jude would cry because she was constantly criticized even while she was doing something she loved.
- Jude would cry behind the baseball field to let out her feelings.
- All people can see when they look at Jude is the darker skin tone she has, “That white top and white shorts against all that black skin. She never felt darker than when she was running”(Bennett 100). This connects to Man vs Man because people make jokes about how dark her skin is. They discriminate against her even though she is a great runner and the fastest girl on her team
- Jude ran track but still felt unwanted.
