Storyboard Tekst

  • Around 300 million years ago, our earth was home to lush forests and a wide range of organisms.
  • As time progressed, sea levels rose forming swamps.
  • Dead and decomposed plants would accumulate at the bottom and sediments washed over them. Then sea levels would drop. The repetition of this process over millions of years forms multiple layers of plants and sediments.
  • When faced with extreme heat and pressure the layers got pushed down forming pockets of coal.
  • The remaining sediments(silt and clay) would turn into a rock called shale.
  • The organic matter would lose most of its oxygen and nitrogen it received from the water leaving behind carbon giving us coal.
  • Now coal is commonly used as a fuel in industries, the manufacture of steel, explosives, and was even used to metal roads earlier.
