  • Hello and welcome to Australia! Did you know that Australia is the only country that takes up a whole entire continent? That makes it one of the top biggest countries in the whole world!

  • Great Britain started to colonize Australia around 1788. They wanted the land because they saw the easily available land and wanted it. They also wanted the land because they could make a living by catching seals and whales and raising sheep
  • Australia is the flattest and most arid of all inhabited continents. It is also the least populated out of the inhabited continents. Australia has only six states which are : New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia, and Tasmania. There are mostly Deserts and semiarid landscapes that cover Australia's western and central portions.

  • Because of millions of years of being away from being away from Asia, Australia has lots of plant and animals that are found nowhere else in the world. Australia has 20,000 species of vascular plants, and 17,000 of them are unique to the continent. Australia has more than 260 species of mammals, and more than half of them are pouched marsupials.
  • A little less than 70 percent of Australians are Christians. There are also some small groups of Buddhists and Muslims, but many people do not follow any religion. Out of everyone about 76.8% of people speak English only, and 18.2% are non-English speakers. After English is Mandarin, with 1.6% of people speaking it.

  • Aboriginal Australians have been living on the continent for thousands of years before the Europeans came to Australia in 1788. Historians estimate that at the time before the Europeans came there were about 300,000 Indigenous Australians. However because of the Europeans contact and colonization of Australia their population went down by about 90%
