- Hey! Where did all of the soda pop go?
- Didn't you hear? They got rid of it because no one drank it. They wanted to get a drink that people actually drank.
- That doesn't make any sense!
- Well just like how they got rid of the soda pop is how the process of lossy compression works. The process of lossy compression is to get rid of certain information, especially unessential information. That probably means that your soda pop wasn't really needed.
- What does that even mean?
- Well it is exactly like lossless and lossy compression!
- How could they do that?
- So they got rid of my drink and not yours?
- Obviously, because mine is better. Anyways, if your drink was essential then they would've kept it. That is like loseless compression. Loseless compression is when nothing get removed and every bit of data is restored.
- At least they didn't get rid of the pop soda.
- I still don't understand.
- What does that have to do with anything?
- Data compression is a reduction in the number of bits needed to represent data. So since no one was drinking the soda pop they took it away and made the stock smaller which can better represent what drinks are being sold.
- This is also like data compression.
- You know what? I'll just go somewhere else.
