  • "My lords" " in churches where I preach I cultivate a haughty kind of speech..."
  • Rising Action
  • "go and find out at once -look spry - whose corpse is in that coffin passing by..."
  • Rising Action Pt.2

  • The story begins within a church of some sorts. The pardoner is about to start preaching.
  • Climax
  • "people would call us robbers"
  • This is where the pardoner's speech about obsessive greed begins. This is also where he begins to tell the story of the three men ( rioters). The three men are in a tavern getting drunk when they see people with a casket walk by and learn of this "person" death.
  • Falling Action
  • Outside of the tavern on stairs they meet the old man, he is interpreted as "the face of death". This old man also tells the rioters about the gold which will lead them down a treacherous path.
  • Resolution
  • The three men (rioters) without heed take their chances and follow death to search for gold, which is them seeking for death.
  • "we'd all be at the top of fortune, hey?"
  • "No, we must bring this treasure back by night some prudent way..."
  • For the three brothers have sinned and death has taken them away from what we know as the world. Two of the three brothers had planned to kill the other when he came back from town but, what they did not know was that the brother had poisoned the wine so it was the end for everyone.
  • "Now for a drink. Sit down and let's be merry, For later on there'll be the corpse to bury."
  • The pardoner finally sells pardons because of the story of the three rioters death.
  • "You that make offering, clean as the hour you were born...That sirs is how I preach. And Jesus Christ, soul's healer...."
