- Her spouse returned home with some wonderful news. They received an invitation to the ball that the Ministry of Education was hosting. Mathilde is concerned, though, because she has nothing appropriate to wear to the event.He offered to purchase her a dress so she could look lovely at the event while the husband consoled his wife. Her husband later purchased a lovely dress for her, but she is still concerned because she lacks jewels to wear.
- Climax
- Her husband suggested that Mathilde should borrow a jewelry from her friend Madame Forestier. So she went to her house and told her why she came. Madame Forestier understood, and let her choose among her jewelries. One jewelry caught Mathilde's eyes and it is a DIAMOND NECKLACE
- Falling Action
- Madame was a tremendous hit with her gown and diamond jewelry. She dazzled everyone at the ball, including the minister, who greeted her. She and her husband then returned home when the ball was over.
- Resolution
- Madame wanted to take one last check at her appearance when they got to their house. Realizing that the borrowed necklace was gone. They went around everywhere looking for the necklace, but the it could not be found
- They visited all jewelers. Thankfully, they discovered a necklace that was similar. They consequently decided to replace the one they lost by purchasing one that is comparable worth 34,000 francs.causing them to incur debt in the process
- Overcoming their debt. After some time passed, as Madame took a walk to freshen herself from all of her hard work from her labors, she saw an attractive woman who was walking with a child, which turned out to be Madame Forestier. After they encountered, Mathilde finally admitted to losing her necklace and expressed her regret to her companion. When she found out that her friend's jewelry only cost 500 francs
