- Henry Clay promoted the compromise to allow Missouri to be a slave state but create main as a free state. After Missouri was allowed to be a slave state they prohibiting slavery North of the latitude 36,30 because they didn't want anymore slave states.

- David Willmott wanted to prevent slavery from moving inland through out the territory gained by the Mexican American War. They did this to stop the South from getting to powerful so they split half slave half free states.

- The Kansas-Nebraska act all happened when many southerners believedthat it was wrong that past the Mississippiborder they couldn't have slave states. This led to a whole battle occurringbetween people who believethat there should be more slave states and people who thin there shouldn't be.
