Storyboard Tekst

  • Hi students, today we will be conducting an experiment using dependent, independent and control variables.
  • We love experiments!
  • I learned last year that independent variables are ones that you are testing. They do not change.
  • Before we begin, we need to understand what variables are and why they are important.
  • ...and I learned that dependent variables are the results of the experiment. They depend on the independent variable.
  • Lisa and Arnold, you are both correct. Do either of you know what a control variable is?
  • Yes Mr. Roberts, control variables are all of the other variables that are kept constant. They do not change throughout the experiment.
  • Perfect. It is important to have the 3 types of variables for fair experiments. Do you know why?
  • Yes Mr. Roberts, You can conduct a fair test by ensuring you only change one factor at a time and keeping all other factors the same.
  • Exactly! Lets see how we can put our learning to the test. I have a wonderful experiment using 3 balls and a ramp to show you.
  • Are the three balls all the same type of ball, but just different sizes, Mr. Roberts?
  • Yes, Arnold, that makes the size of the ball our independent variable. What would our dependent variable be?
  • I think the dependent variable will be how far the ball rolls. Will they be rolling off of a ramp?
