- Start with a B-17 flying low over the ocean searching for a place to land. Then they find a perfect wave to land on then land violently on it.
- Rising Action
- Describe the men's backstories, Jim had gotten engaged between his 6th and 7th flight over the pacific. Johnny's sister died from roller skating. John was at a wedding that had to be cut short. They go to the hanger to get their plane and have trouble imagining that the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. They start taking off and a tire pops so they slow down and Ritenbacker their VIP complemented him
- Rising action
- They take off in their new B-17. They plan to land and refuel on Canton Island but overshoot and are forced to land in the choppy water.
- Climax
- They ration 4 oranges as they are surrounded by sharks.
- A bird lands on Rickenbacker's hat and they catch it. They ended up saving the guts of the bird but eating the rest of it. They use the guts as bait to catch fish. They catch a few fish and their health starts to get better, Once the fish are gone their health is not very good.
- Alex Kaczmarczyk died which caused Bill Cherry to repeatedly request to split off from the group and was eventually allowed to split off
