  • Hello, My name is Jennifer! I will be sharing the impact Gina's Story had on me and four different ways I would help parents share their voice.
  • GINA'S STORY
  • As future educators we need to make sure that we are providing the proper resources and accomodations for our students. We want to make sure we are learning about our students and their learning styles. We need to make sure we are constantly modifying and making new programs that help our students meet their goals. Reading through Gina's story encourages me as a future elementary school teacher to always be aware and make sure my students are in a comfortable and place they can learn best.
  • Through Gina's story I felt very encouraged and moved by Professor Mirabella's unending support and determination for her daughter. She was able to see the potential in Gina and had done everything she could to grow that potential. I realized the importance of the environment and people around the child. Gina was in an environment that was suited and the people within that environment had helped her grow an immense amount. I love one part Professor Mirabella writes where she says "She is never a burden to her family, or society."
  • 다행이 통역사가 있어서 너무 좋네요. 우리 아이에대한 질문이많아요.
  • Of course. It is no problem!
  • I am so grateful to have a translator. I have many questions about my child.
  • Communicating in a way where parents feel the most comfortable to share their voice. Some parents might not speak english as their first language so finding a translator so that they could better express to me how we could help their child.
  • 아닙니다. 당연하죠.
  • All students learning styles are different and as a teacher it is our job to make sure our students are in an environment they learn best. I would listen to different accomodations they feel their child may need. This classroom shows an example of using alternative seating like the gym ball or a bean bag chair.
  • Setting up one-on-one appointments like these is the best way for me.
  • What is the best method of communication for you?
  • Methods of communication is also another important aspect of helping a parent's voice be heard. I would make sure to ask parents which method is most effective for them. This can be done through phone calls, email, text messaging, zoom meetings, or in person meetings.
  • I am not sure how I could be helping her at home.
  • Making sure parents feel valuable and that they are doing the best they can. Often times, parents are also lost on what they should be doing for their child. As teachers, we need to encourage and remind them that we are supporting them in every which way we can. This can be done through asking them questions like "How can we help?" "What are some things you realize your child does at home?"
  • What are some concerns you have about Madeline?
