- Santiago first meets the Alchemist in Al-Fayoum. The Alchemist had held up the sword to his head until blood dripped, he questioned him about his readings and never told the boy who he was. He made sure that he doesn't let up after coming so far.
- goodbye Santiago, go fulfil your personal legend.
- Santiago wasn't ready to leave his love behind and was hesitant on following the Alchemist to the treasure. Santiago demanded to see Fatima before he left so he could say his goodbye. He told her that he was coming back and that he loves her so much. This gave Fatima hope that he would return.
- The Alchemist and Santiago start their journey through the desert. The Alchemist was teaching him all of the things he needed to know about the desert on their way. The Alchemist had taught Santiago to trust his heart and become one with it because it will lead him in the right direction.
- The Alchemist has brought Santiago as far as he can go, now Santiago has to go on by himself. Before he left, he told Santiago that he needs to become the wind and sun in order to stay alive on this journey.
- Santiago is on his own now and full of pride. He climbed to the top of the dune and saw the majestic Pyramids of Egypt. He started digging where he had found this omen and found a piece of gold. He wept in tears of joy until refuges from the tribal war took the gold.
- Santiago had reached a small abandoned church, there was a sycamore tree outside and he started to dig. Half an hour later he hit something solid. Before him was a chest of Spanish gold coins.Santiago smiled and said "I'm coming Fatima".
