  • A long time ago, there was a supreme god called Bathala. He had created seven moons in the night sky. Everyone was happy because of the bright nights. It was so bright that it even caught the attention of Bakunawa.
  • Bakunawa is a sea serpent-like dragon with a large mouth, and a bright red tongue. It has a deep blue coloured body with spiky scales along it's back.
  • I have an idea!
  • Bakunawa was so amazed by the seven moons that once every hundred years, it would rise from the bottom of the pitch black ocean, and swallow one of the moons.
  • It's afraid of loud noises.
  • After six centuries, only one moon remained. The rest had been swallowed and the annual day of Bakunawa rising was very soon.
  • Soon enough Bathala and the ancient Filipinos notices and they were angry. They knew they had to do something, because this was causing natural disasters like eclipses and earthquakes.
  • They thought of a plan because they knew that the Bakunawa was afraid of loud noises.
