- What did St. Elmo Brady discover? He discovered new methods for purifying and making specific compounds and clarifying the influence of carbonyl groups on the acidity of carboxylic acids. Important discoveries that aided the developing field of organic chemistry.
- He defended his dissertion regarding the acidity of carboxylic acids in which a pair of hydrogen atoms would be replaced with an oxygen atom to give a keto acid, he named it “The Scale Influence of Substituents in Paraffine Monobasic Acids. The Divalent Oxygen Atom,”. Later on after being rejected from various jobs due to the color of his skin he began to fund various chemistry programs.

- Dr. Brady served as a dedicated chemist, opening opportunities for others and providing the new field of organic chemistry and being a historical landmark in chemistry. His dedication to chemistry took place 50 years before racial discrimination was outlawed.
