- Around 9500 BCE, two pastoralists (Rocky and Barly) were warming themselves by the fireand debating the merits of theirneighbor's new Neolithic lifestyle.
- I like having the freedom to roamthe earth as I please right now
- The people working out in the field over there always seem to have greener grasses and vegetables for dinner than we do. I will join them.
- Herding, Hunting and gathering is risky and I don't want to starve
- Barly left to join the agrarian tribe in the fields, while Rocky remained closer his nomadic hunter gatherer roots, following a herd of goats and also taking time during the day to relax and play with his kids.
- Barly and the others worked all day long, but they were able to generate enough food to store leftovers. As they became more efficient in their new agrarian life, they were able to spare some people from working the fields and use them to guard the food.
- One of the guards with narcissistic tendencies thought he did a better job storing and guarding than the others, and he felt he should own the food the earth was producing. Using force, he declared himself king and then invented a social hierarchy and a religion to subdue the others while creating the concept of divine right to justify a few having more than others
- God personally told me I deserve all of this !
- The king decided not to distribute the crops equally among the laborers in his civilization and gave them wages instead. When the king decided he couldn't live without a bigger palace, he had no choice but to make some austere cost reductions and to create a police state to prevent rebellion. Barly was back to being hungry, working for starvation wages with hardly any free time to play with her kids.
- I'm hangry
- A wise sage visited the unspoiled paradise valley where Rocky was still hunting and gathering, and enjoying his free time playing with his kids. Rocky told him the story about what happened to his old friend Barly.The sage wisely replied:
- The grass isn't always greener on the other side.
