On the way to Florida, the Grandmother talks about a plantation she visited when she was a child and the children start to pressure the father into allowing them to visit. On the way to the plantation, the Grandmother remembered that the plantation is in Tennessee, not in Georgia, but chooses not to mention it. They are not near anywhere when her cat, Pitty Sing, jumped out of her bag and onto the driver, causing an accident.
Falling Action
After getting into the accident, a hearse, containing three men arrived. The Grandmother recognized one of the men as "The Misfit." The Misfit realized he could not let the family go, and started to threaten the family. Bailey and John Wesley were taken into the woods. New characters: The Misfit, Bobby Lee, Hiram
Falling Action
The Grandmother asks him if he prays. He says he doesn't. Gunshots were then heard from the woods. This causes the grandmother to panic and start praying. The Misfit starts to talk about his experience while being incarcerated and how he doesn't know if he actually committed the crime. The other men come back from the woods.
Lady, there never was a body that give the undertaker a tip
Jesus! You've got good blood! I know you wouldn't shoot a lady! I know you come from nice people! You ought not to shoot a lady. I'll give you all the money I've got!
Bailey Boy, Bailey Boy!
When the other men return, The Misfit is given Bailey's shirt. The children's mother, June Star, and the baby are asked if they want to join Bailey and John Wesley. They do, so they follow Bobby Lee and Hiram to the woods. Once alone with The Misfit, the Grandmother starts praying again. They hear a shriek from the woods and three gunshots. The Grandmother, while panicking, thinks that the Misfit is her son and begins reaching for him.
Why you're oneof my babies. You're one of my own children!
The Misfit was startled by the Grandmother's actions and shoots her three times in the chest. Hiram and Bobby Lee return and began to throw her body where the rest of the family's bodies were. One of the men then comments on the Grandmother's last moments before death. The Misfit does not find the same pleasure in the incident that had just occurred, so he tells him to be quiet.
She was a talker, wasn't she?
Some fun!
Shut up, Bobby Lee. There is no real pleasure in life
She would have been a good woman, if it had been somebody there to shoot her every minute of her life.
