- By the mid 18th century, they formed thirteen colonies.
- The english settlers arrived American coasts (New England) in the 17th century.

- This thirteen colonies are Massachusets, New Hamphshire, Conneticut, New York, Pensnsylvania, New Yersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Rothe Island.
- In northern colonies, the economy was based on agriculture and trade. On the southern colonies, the main activity was tobacco farming.
- The thirteen colonies were subject to the authority of the king of England, but they also had some autonomy. Colonial assemblies had the power to collect certain taxes, but they started to stop paying taxes because they wanted representation
- Between the 1764 and 1766, the king tried to impose new taxes, but the colonies responded by refusing british products.
- In 1773 the British Parliament passed the Tea Act, iwch gave the English East India Company a monopoly on the sale of tea in the Boston harbour
