Storyboard Tekst

  • Exposition
  • once I consived of a plan to murder the old man, the idea haunted me day and night
  • Rising Action One
  • I undid the lantern cautiously-oh, so cautiously- cautiously(for the hinges creaked)- I undid it just so much that a single thin ray fell upon the vulture eye. And this i did for seven long nights-every night just at midnight
  • Rising action 2
  • To think that there i was , opening the door, little by little, and he not even to dream of my secret deeds or thoughts. I fairly chuckled at the idea
  • The antagonist of the story is the narrator. His main goal throughout the entire story is to prove his sanity by describing how carefully he planned and carried out the murder of an old man. He begins by telling the listener that the motive for murder is nothing more than the sight of the old mans "vulture eye".
  • Climax
  • He shrieked once-once only. In and instant I dragged him to the floor, an pulled the heavy bed over him.
  • The narrator stared the murder by being extra kind to the old man for a whole week. During that week he would sneak into the old mans bed chamber with a lantern that had a small crevice in it so he could see the old mans "vulture eye". The narrator does all of these acts at midnight which symbolizes death or evil.
  • Falling action
  • If you still think me mad, you will think so no longer when I describe the wise precautions I took for the concealment of the body
  • On the eighth night the narrator was extra audacious. He started to laugh at the old mans fear, waking him up. The narrator and the old man have a one hour stand off in the middle of the night. The narrator thinks he hears the old mans heart beat but its actually his anxiety growing.
  • Resolution
  • Villains! Dissemble no more! I admit the deed!-tear up the planks! here, here!-It is the beating of his hideous heart!
  • A thin ray of light from the narrators lantern reveled the old mans "vulture eye". The narrator vehemently smothererd the old man with a mattress.
  • The narrator finally achieved his goal of killing the old man. To further prove his sagacity the narrator explains what he did with the old mans body. The narrator dismembered the body in the bath tub so there would be no blood. He then hides the dismembered body parts under the floor boards. After four dark hours the dead body is fully hidden. The police then arrive because the neighbors heard a scream.
  • When the police come in to investigate the narrator is very confident they wont find anything. After a while though the narrator hears a heart beat and starts to panic because it gradually got louder the point he thought the police could hear it. The police stayed so calm that the narrator thought it was a derision. He then later confessed.
