- Narcissus' mother wanted to know whether or not her demi-god son would live forever. She asked the well known Tiresias, a blind seer.
- If he but fail to recognize himself, a long life he may have, beneath the sun.
- Here!
- A nymph, cursed to only answer others with their own words, fell in love with Narcissus when she saw him walking in the woods.
- Who is here?
- Caress me!
- When she was rejected, she hid away and her bones turned into stone after she died, but we still hear her echoes today.
- Take off your hands! you shall not fold your arms around me. Better death than such a one should ever caress me!
- If he should love deny him what he loves!
- I grant your assent
- Narcissus rejected many girls, so one implored the gods, saying...
- Narcissus fell deeply in love with the reflection in the fountain.
- Echo grieved the loss of Narcissus. As he said farewell, so did she. When Narcissus died, his body was changed into a flower.
- Narcissus was unable to walk away from his reflection since he was so in love, leading him to death.
