air pollution, and how it affects evrything

Storyboard Tekst

  • these illustrations probably look normal. but in reality, it only looks like this because of light pollution, the result of artificial lights being placed around any and all developed areas.
  • but that doesn't seem like a big problem, does it? well, let me show you something else. this is a factory producing electricity. many factories still produce greenhouse gasses due to using coal or fossil fuels. even wind, solar, and hydraulic power generators are not safe from this. though usage does not use any of these things to function, the production and destruction of these tools do. light pollution also confuses baby sea turtles, (among other animals) because they use the sun/moon's reflection to find the water. but because of light pollution, many of them turn towards the towns and never even make it to the water. some birds get blinded momentarily by the bright lights, and crash into buildings! so, you might be thinking, how are we supposed to fix this? well, let me show you.
  • this problem is a little hard to find a fix for, but so are most. these pictures are the same places, if light pollution was reduced. to know how the world can fix this, and how you can help, read the next two panels.
  • what industries and governments can do: by placing fewer unnecessary streetlights,(people have headlights), issuing an international space day (where all the lights would go off so that the stars are visible, even in cities), find better ways to get electricity that last longer and are better for the environment, and try as hard as possible to build and use less coal and/or petroleum-fueled power plants.
  • because that would take longer than a lifetime, here are some things you can do to reduce light pollution during your lifetime.
  • what you can do: make sure that all of the lights in your house are turned off at night, ask your governor or mayor to pass laws prohibiting blinding lights during bird migrations, and tell people who live near the beach to do the same for turtles.
