- Forgiveness is a big theme in this story. One example is when the girls forgive Alexia for the horrible way she treated all of them.
- Throughout the novel, the students learn to take responsibility for their own actions. One example of this is when Peter takes responsibility for Mr. Terupt's horrible injury.
- One example of a special friendship is the one between Jessica and Jeffrey. They are quite the unlikely pair.
