- Douglass runs away from Covey into the cornfield to hide.

- I may be a slave physically, but I will always be free mentally.
- Douglass went with Sandy to his house and stayed there overnight where Sandy told him to carry a root on his right side and no white man would ever hurt him if he carried it.
- After Douglass returns, Covey tackles Douglass in the loft, and Douglass fights back.
- HELP!!!!!
- After Douglass wins the fight, Covey is scared of him and doesn’t hurt him anymore.
