  • Mrs. Snow: Do not talk back to your teacher, go wait in the hallway! 
  • But I just wanted some help and I --
  • 
  • I just wanted to show my sister that I knew how to write like her.
  • Mrs. Snow: Now that we are at the end of the class, can you all tell me what you learned today?
  • 
  • Sit down, raise your hand, only speak when an adult tells you.
  • Adam is met with yet another command of obedience as he is sent to the hallway despite his passion for learning the course material and simply seeking his teacher's assistance to help him learn.
  • Adam is distressed and ultimately does not get to learn the course material to impress his older sister, because he was unable to conform to the Hidden Curriculum's content of obedient compliance. Students coming from under-resourced schools and families are often unfamiliar with the mandate of the Hidden Curriculum and struggle or even fail to persist throughout various levels of education. Students specifically at risk tend to be from historically underrepresented populations, like first in their families to attend college, multilingual, people of colour, from lower socio-economic status communities and from immigrant backgrounds.
  • Back in the classroom, Mrs. Snow ends the class by reinforcing the material of the prioritized Hidden Curriculum as we see the class repeat the learned acts of obedience, rather then the course work itself.
