- Chuck and Thomas are eating Frypan's dinner while sitting by a tree. Thomas begins to question Chuck about the maze.
- Um, I've never been outside the glade.
- You're hiding something, why are you guys so secretive?
- It bothered Thomas that Chuck didn't seem to care about what he just said.
- That's just the way it is. Things are really weird around here, and most of us don't know everything. Half of everything.
- Well, no one said I couldn't look around.
- What was wrong with these people? Thomas got to his feet and started walking to the Eastern opening.
- Whoa, Wait!
- Be careful, those puppies are about to close....The doors, you shank......What do you call those big openings?...What else would I have meant?
- ...Close? what are you talking about?...Doors? I don't see any doors... The walls really move?...
- Thomas had a hard time wrapping his head around this possibility .
- I don't know , they just move. Same thing happens out in the maze-those walls shift every night too.
- What did you just say? You just called it a maze.
- I'm done with you. I'm done.
- Chuck walked back toward the tree they just left.
