- Biogeography is the study of how and why plants and animals live where they do. This can help scientists understand evolution. Take for example, the Grizzly Bear and Polar Bear, they are both big apex predators and both bears but they are very different.
- The ancestor of the polar bear is the brown bear, a species that includes the grizzly. The polar bear and grizzly bear thrive in their own habitats and have evolved to best suit their environments. The polar bear has white fur to camouflage with the arctic landscape and has black skin to better absorb heat from the sun. It has a longer nose and skull to catch prey such as seals. Polar bears are also excellent swimmers, which is necessary for them if the ice is thin.
