In a school of 1200 students, the Human Biology Class of 2021 were genetically superior.
The origin of the Gilmore College Cult
During Term 4, Mrs Pilkington taught the Year 12's about evolution. She told them all about different populations that have high frequencies of certain traits and disorders due to Natural Selection, gene flow, the Bottleneck Effect and the Founder Effect.
The Ashkenazi Jews geographically isolated themselves and chose to marry within their own community. This population has a high incidence of Tay-Sachs disease.
Now, Mrs Pilkington loved a good story....
So, my superior Year 12's, sociocultural barriers can be a reason allele frequencies change in populations - this is the Founder Effect. Imagine this class of individuals with superior genes decided to only mate within yourselves. We'll create a Gilmore Cult!Fast forward a few hundred years and generations later - there'll be a new school that exists just for our Gilmore Cult. Only the superior beings originating from this current population can attend.
The Year 12's very much liked this idea - how wonderful to breed a population of superior beings!BUT WAIT! There's only 2 students with blue eyes.
The students knew there was a real possibility that the blue eye allele may disappear from the gene pool of the Gilmore Cult because of its recessive inheritance pattern.
It was decided that the Gilmore Cult should maintain the blue eye allele. It is up to Jack and Keana to keep the blue eye allele present and breed blue eyed babies!
Congratulations Year 12's! Continue to reach for the stars and live your best lives. I will always remember our Gilmore Cult and look forward to seeing what Cult members achieve as the population evolves.
