- Rainsford and Whitney are talking about hunting in the jungle, and discussing the mysterious island that they were about to pass.
- CLIMAX
- Whitney turns in for the night, and Rainsford decides to stay to smoke his pipe. Rainsford stood onto the railing of the boat, and accidentally dropped his pipe, causing him to fall overboard.
- FALLING ACTION
- Rainsford swims to the island and is greeted by a mansion. he goes over to see if anyone is there when a tall man opens the door, then General Zaroff invites him inside. The two talk about hunting when the General tells Rainsford that he hunts humans
- RESOLUTION
- Rainsford was forced into being prey, and had to survive 3 nights, with the General hunting him. Rainford sets up several traps to last him 3 days.
- At the end of the 3 days, Rainsford sneaks into General Zaroff's room and surprises him. General Zaroff then congratulates Rainsford.
- Zaroff promises Rainford a bed, and Rainsford goes to sleep, finally being able to rest.
