- Macbeth is nervous about what he is about to do and he very nearly decides not to go ahead with it. Lady Macbeth tries her best to get him to carry on with the deed and finally succeeds. Macbeth walks off to Duncan's room...
- Macbeth starts having visions and he thinks he sees a dagger hovering in mid-air in front of him. He believes the handle is towards his hand, inviting him to use it.
- Macbeth murders Duncan while he is asleep and plants the knives next to the King's servants.
- Next morning, Macduff enters the King's chamber to awake the King. He discovers the King, dead and runs out of the room shouting 'HORROR, HORROR, HORROR!'. Every rushes to the scene, including Macbeth and Lady Macbeth and they all stand shocked at what has happened. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth fake shock and horror to hide their guilt.
- Lady Macbeth 'faints' as she seemingly takes in what has happened. Some people carry her out as more people flock in to find out what the fuss is all about.
