  • The Great Gatsby: Chapters 23
  • The Great Gatsby: Chapter 4
  • Nick Carraway visits the home of Tom and Daisy Buchanan for lunch. Nick encounters Jordan Baker, who informs him that Tom has a girlfriend in New York (Fitzgerald 18). Nick observes, over the course of lunch, how Daisy attempts to portray her relationship with Tom as flawless but fails due to Tom's attitude.
  • The Great Gatsby: Chapter 5
  • Nick meets Tom's mistress, Myrtle, while he is in the city at Tom's invitation. When Nick returns home, a chauffeur in uniform crosses his lawn and hands him a note stating that if he attends Gatsby's small party, the honor will be completely Gatsby's (Fitzgerald 45). He finally meets his well-known neighbor, Jay Gatsby, at the party.
  • The Great Gatsby: Chapters 67
  • Nick is invited to lunch by Jay Gatsby in the city, where he meets Gatsby's close friend, Mr. Wolfsheim. Nick and Gatsby encounter Tom after lunch, and Nick attempts to introduce Tom to Gatsby, but Gatsby has already left (Fitgerald 80). Nick comes to comprehend Gatsby's departure when Jordan confesses to him that Gatsby once loved Daisy and wishes to reunite with her.
  • The Great Gatsby: Chapters 89
  • Nick agrees to ask Daisy to tea so that Gatsby may once again speak with her. Although Gatsby was excited to see Daisy again, he was deathly pale (Fitzgerald 92) since he did not know how she would react. The magnetism between Gatsby and Daisy was evident, and they had no trouble connecting once more.
  • Daisy and Tom attend a party at Gatsby's home, where Tom observes Gatsby and his wife. After their modest gathering, Daisy proposed that they travel to the city (Fitzgerald 126). During their trip to town, Tom and Gatsby get into a heated disagreement about Daisy and who she truly loves, and Daisy admits to Tom that she loves Gatsby.
  • When returning to town, Daisy stumbles across Tom's mistress Myrtle, but Gatsby swiftly takes the blame. Mr. Wilson goes to Mr. Gatsby's house and kills Gatsby in the pool, where Nick will later discover him along with a tiny red circle (Fitzgerald 173). Nick attempts to contact all of his friends after Gatsby's death but is found to be alone at Gatsby's funeral.
