Storyboard Tekst
- I wonder if it’s that simple? I am queer, a person of color, born in Santa Maria. I went to school there, then stayed, then here to this high school in the tiny town near the fancy collections of neighborhoods. I am the only person in my class with a self picked name. The steps from the bus stop lead down into this small neighborhood, Through the trees and sunlight, then I cross by the Halloween decorated houses, The arrangements of shrubbery in front yards, up the hill, and I come to the pink house with the palm tree, where I take the sandy pathway up to my room, sit down, and write this page:
- It’s not easy to know what is true for you or me at seventeen, my age. But I guess I’m what I feel and see and hear, my purple walls , I hear you. hear you, hear me—we two—you, me, talk on this page. (I hear my blue walls , too.) Me who?
- Well, I like to listen to music, make my own, write, and sing. I like to imagine, create, pretend, and act. I like band tee’s for a Christmas present, or records—Pierce the Veil, Car Seat Headrest, or Frank Ocean. I guess being self named doesn’t make me not like the same things other folks like. So will my page be inspiring that I write? Being me, it will not be boring.
- But it will bea part of you, instructor. You are cis—yet a part of me, as I am a part of you.That’s American.Sometimes perhaps you don’t want to be a part of me. Nor do I often want to be a part of you.But we are, that’s true!As I learn from you,I guess you learn from me—although you’re older—and somewhat more wise.This is my page for English 12.
