Storyboard Tekst

  • The day had started out like any other school day, but there was a twist.
  • Essay Due A Week from Today
  • I am assigning a paper about someone you look up to.
  • Mike tried to tell Mr.Wright that he was feeling "sick", but there was no way of getting out of the project.
  • I'm sorry mike no exceptions
  • **Fake Coughs**See I'm sick!
  • On the way home, Mike struggled to find ideas for his paper.
  • Man, what am I going to do now?
  • Mike continued to stress about his paper throughout the night.
  • How do I start a paper? I don't know how to write a good paper.
  • All of a sudden there was a loud noise.
  • WHAT WAS THAT?!?
  • A strange banging sound came from the kitchen.
  • Who's there?
  • A man dressed in a strange costume appeared.
  • BEHOLD! IT IS I !
  • Mike's savior came to his rescue.
  • The most famous superhero of them all of course! I am Academic Man!
  • Mike could not believe his eyes.
  • I have been sent to show you how to write an academic paper!
  • Suddenly, Mike was floating.
  • Am I flying right now? Is this a dream?
  • Mike was transported to Academic Man's castle.
  • Who are you?
  • First stop is the tree of writing myths.
  • Writing Myth Tree
  • You bet! Hold on tight!
  • WHERE ARE WE?
  • My home of course! This is where I am going to show you how to become an academic writer.
  • To understand how to write, you must first recognize the common mistakes students make regarding academic writing. These myths can weakening your writing.
  • Academic Man expressed the most common myths of academic writing.
  • Myth #3: Writing does not have to be performed in a certain order. The "Five Paragraph Essay" is not a universal tool. It can be used as a basis for structure, but there are many forms of academic essays. You must look at the individual assignment to see if it is a useful format.
  • Myth #1: An essay does not have to be completed all at once. Write whatever comes to mind, don't focus on getting everything on the page in one sitting. That is a common reason for writers block among students.
  • Myth #2: Although it is encouraged to avoiding the use of "I", it can be a useful semi-formal writing style, especially when reflecting or exploring personal topics.
  • He continued to explain the importance of analysis and interpretation, in the words of L. Lennie Irvin.
  • As you get older, writing becomes more about contextualizing than about the writing itself. In order to convince the reader, you must prove you have mastered skills of thinking, interpreting, and presenting. You must possess the ability to analyze new information as you switch over between subjects, but you must also preserve the essential skills.
  • Academic Man summed up his first arguement.
  • Overall you must understand what you're writing, and then the hard work and practice will pay off.
  • I understand. What is the next step?
  • Next, Academic Man brought Mike to his castle.
  • The next step to academic writing is understanding your audience.
  • Mike is about to meet the Queen of Academic Writing.
  • Wow. I always get writers block because I think I must write the whole paper at once. It stresses me out an excessive amount. I never realized academic writing was more than just getting words on the paper.
  • The Queen's role is to represent the people. She must listen to her constituents because they're her audience and shape her job as the Queen.
  • Mike was really nervous to say the least. He was about to meet Queen Kristen!
  • Hello Mike, i've heard you're in need of some help!
  • You bet he does!
  • You see, an author is similar to a queen in many ways.
  • Writing for an audience is quite easy. A Queen listens to her audience and an author has that power.
  • The Queen went on to tell Mike about her writing experience.
  • Take writing for deaf people for instance. They have barriers to writing traditional English, allowing them to expand their skills in non visual ways, such as ASL or code mixing.
  • "...Literary English and the attendant displays of hearing cultural norms do not reflect the lives, embodied realities of a Deaf person's life or sign language (201)."
  • My writing must "reflect" what my audience's "reality" is. If writing does not fit your audience, your story will not be told properly.
  • Then all of a sudden...
  • The Queen and the guards went missing.
  • The longer Mike was in an another dimension, the more people will disappear. Academic Man's world became dark.
  • Wow! This is all making sense.
  • What just happened?! Why is it dark?! Where is the queen?!
  • Let me explain. I didn't think this would happen!
  • We must hurry and finish teaching you the rules, in order to bring you home and restore the light!
  • Academic Man took Mike back to the Writing tree, but it looked different.
  • We must discuss the art of revision. It is the final rule you must grasp to go home and restore my dimension.
  • It is not only the student's job to create a well written piece of work.
  • It is my job as the teacher, as well as any teacher you may have, to to give value to revision and make sure student's such as yourself understand its importance.
  • Revising is like rebuilding a house.
  • As an apprentice, my master Ray would explain revision like rebuilding a house. You must take out what is unnecessary, add what belongs, and make sure all things connect throughout the house.
  • Academic Man encouraged Mike to recite what he had learned to ensure he could write an academic paper.
  • The rain and sky are starting to clear. You must prove you know how to write to save my world!!
  • Academic Man felt Mike was ready to return home and write his essay.
  • Essay due TOMORROW
  • A week after submitting his paper, Mike recieved a grade...
  • Grade: A
  • Great job Mike. You're writing was well-revised, and you made it obvious who your intended audience is.
  • Rule number 1 is to understand the misconceptions of writing and learn how to contextualize.Rule number 2 is to understand my intended audience, as the queen said.Rule number 3 is to understand the importance of revision and re-build my writing.
  • With the help of Academic Man, Mike was able to improve his academic writing abilities. As a student who constantly worried about recieving a bad grade and writing poorly, he was able to write an impressive piece. He will forever write with Academic man's 3 tools.
