Storyboard Tekst

  • Oh no! I just got notfied that someone is stealing my identity. This is not good.
  • What does that mean?
  • Identity theft is when someone gets another person's information to commit fraud and to use financially. They pretend to be you and the Information they can get and use includes: credit card numbers, names, address, social secruity numbers, and more.
  • That sounds horrible! How do you prevent it?
  • There are many ways you can prevent identity theft. One thing you can do is create different and unique passwords for all of your accounts. This makes it difficult for people to log in and get your information. You should also bring important financial letters to the post office instead of the mailbox so no one can access it. It is also important to shred your trash instead of just throwing it away. Thiefs can get these papers and have all of your financial information in their own hands.
  • Hmm... I undertand that now, but how can you detect identity theft?
  • Two ways to detect identity theft:1. Check to see if you have money charged to your account on purchaces you didn't make.2. Check your credit report to see if there are eny credit cards or loans you don't have.
  • I know so much more about how to prevent a detect identity theft, but I have one more question. I learned about credit reports and I want to know: Why are they so important?
  • Credit reports are so important because they are free, you get them every year, and they show you all of the activity that has been going on with accounts, your money, and much more. These reports are so valuable because the earlier you spot suspicious activity, the easier it will be to fix.
