- holes started off as a young boy named Stanley Yelnats in trial for stealing a pair of shoes and deciding to go to camp green lake

- Stanley was sent to Camp Green Lake because he was accused of stealing a famous baseball players shoes when he really did not . having to dig a hole every day 5 feet wide 5 feet long . He meets somebody named zero and becomes great friends with Stanley.
- falling action
- Elya yelnats got a pig to trade for a girl but the pig is small so he has to carry the pig up the mountain so it can get bigger. Elya ends up not bringing Madame Zeroni up the montain so his family will be cursed .
- Zero gets tired of camp and smacks the person that works there with a shovel and runs away .
- Stanley finds zero and they start to go to gods thumb to get some food and water . they find the food and water and breaking the curse of Stanleys family because zero is Madame Zeroni. They both go back to camp digging one more hole .
- They find treasure and bring it back to there houses and live hapily ever after
