The British troops were already very organized and well trained by strong military leaders. They also had more experience in war than the colonists did.
Unfamiliar Territory
Which way do we go now?
We're so lost!!!
Britain had a very strong, organized central government. During this time, they were under the control of King George III.
Little Support
Britain was a wealthy nation with substantial resources to support war efforts. There were around 80,000 British troops including 30,000 hired mercenaries known as Hessians.
Far Away From Britain
We are running out of supplies.
The British troops were miles away from their homeland. Most had never been in the colonies so they don't know the land as well as the colonists.
The people living in Britain didn't really care for another war. Considering most were still in debt from the war they were just involved in, they didn't fully support getting into another one.
We don't need another war!
Important things like supplies took longer to arrive because of the long distance. As well as orders and news for the troops. It also affected the efficiency of new troops arriving to help.
