- Theo woke up thinking if he should tell his parent about Julio’s cousin. He decided not to and he called his Uncle Ike. He knew he could trust him. Theo ate breakfast and said goodbye to his parents and quickly went to his uncle’s house. Theo told his uncle about Julio and his cousin, without mentioning their names, and what Julio’s cousin saw. Ike told Theo to call him after school. During school, somebody thanked Theo for advice to go to a bankruptcy lawyer so they were able to keep their house.
- I don't know what to do.
- Call me later and we'll discuss this then.
- After, school, Theo went to the court and sat right next to his uncle Ike. It was already 5:00 pm, so they had to leave. Theo and Ike went back to Ike’s office. Ike told Theo that he had three options to see what to do, but Theo didn’t like any of them. Theo went back to his office. His mom was at a book club, and his dad was visiting Judge Plankmore. Judge Plankmore was dying of many causes, so his dad wanted to see him again. Julio knocked on the door. Theo let him in. Julio came in with a Ziploc bag with two white gloves. Theo asked what those were. Julio said that his cousin found these gloves in the trash. The murderer of Mrs. Duffy wore those gloves and threw them away. Theo didn’t know what to do. Julio handed the bag to him. Julio left the office. Theo couldn’t just go to the police and tell them about the gloves.
- Mr. Duffy is guilty, but he seems innocent.
- I will see what I can do.
- Theo couldn’t sleep that night. He was thinking about the gloves that Julio gave him. In the morning, his mom was making sausages and pancakes. He ate breakfast and left for Ike’s office. Theo told him everything about the gloves (except for Julio and his cousin’s identity). Ike tells Theo to go to school, while he goes to the court and watches the trial. When Theo went to school, a kid named Woody told Theo he needed help because his brother had gone to jail. Theo asked why he went to jail. Woody told him because he had possession of drugs. Theo said that all they needed to do was to hire a lawyer. But Woody said he couldn’t because his parents didn’t have that kind of money. Theo said he would meet Woody at recess and see what he could do. Woody thanked Theo and they went to 1st period classes.
- My brother is in jail. I need your help!
