Storyboard Tekst

  • Greenhouse gas emissions trap the heat from the sun inside Earth’s atmosphere.
  • The amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere far exceeds the naturally occurring range seen during the last 650,000 years.
  • Most of the carbon dioxide that people put into the atmosphere comes from burning fossil fuels; cars, trucks, trains, and planes burn fossil fuels, as well as many electric power plants.
  • Greenhouse gas emissions increased 70% between 1970 and 2004. Emissions of carbon dioxide rose by about 80% during that period.
  • -Rising sea levels cause flooding in coastal cities. -Millions of people depend on glacial meltwater for drinking, irrigation, and hydroelectric power. Rapid loss of these glaciers will devastate the countries dependent on them.
  • Increases in global temperatures can have huge effects:-Melting ice caps and glaciers- causing sea levels to rise.-Glaciers and ice caps cover about 10% of the world’s landmasses. They hold between 70-75% of the world’s freshwater.
  • -As climate changes, so do the habitats for animals, and these animals will become threatened. -Crops require predictable weather patterns, if the climate of an area changes, the people may not be able to grow the crops they need for survival.
  • We need to reduce the amount of Greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere:-Drive less- carpool, walk and/or ride a bike whenever possible.-Fly less-Reduce, reuse, recycle!
  • Plant more trees; stop cutting so many down!Use less electricity!Support alternative energy sources that don’t burn fossil fuels.
