  • Throughout reading about Gina’s story, I was touched by the motivation of her parents to make sure her life could be as normal as possible. From fighting for her place in a teacher classroom in preschool where she believed her daughter could flourish, to fighting for a program to be implemented into Gina’s school that would help her with communication and help set realistic goals for her, Gina’s Parents were very determined to make sure she got the best educational experience possible. Many aspects of Gina’s story inspired me and showed me what a teacher should be doing in a case like Gina's. As a teacher, I want to be able to communicate with parents about their children and to have a classroom that supports any type of children
  • One way as a teacher that I would make sure parent's voices are heard is by allowing feedback from parents. I would first show all parents what the classroom activities for the week would be. I would then accept feedback and implement changes accordingly to make the best classroom possible for all students. I believe that as a teacher accepting feedback from parents can be an important way to show the parents that they have a voice and that their child is in the best learning environment possible.

  • Another way I would make sure parent's voices are heard is through some form of a PTA. Through a PTA, parents can have a much closer involvement with the school and in the classroom. Parents will be able to get a closer look into how their children are being taught and also would be able to more easily help implement programs into the school when needed, like in Gina’s case. Overall a PTA would be very helpful in making sure parents' voices are shared and that their children are getting a quality education.
