- In a village far away, The White family is expecting an arriving guest any second, and then a knock sounds and in comes Sgt. Maj. Morris, a old friend of Mr. White.

- Herbert wishes for two hundred pounds to pay of the mortgage, and is crushed in a machine while at work which makes Mrs. White very sad, and wishing she hadn't let Herbert make a wishThe White family finds out about the monkey's paw, and after Sgt. Maj. Morris tries to destroy it, Mr. White takes it out of the fire.

- Mrs. White wishes for her son back, having learned little about the consequences of the wish Herbert made.
- Falling Action/Resolution
- Herbert comes back from the dead, and Mrs. White, much to the dismay of Mr. White, wants to let Herbert in after he knocks knowing the consequences of the wish will be bad he rushes down stairs to find the paw to make the final wish and make the monkey's paw disappear once and for all.
- Mr. White scrambles to find the monkeys paw , and as the latch on the door opens, Mr. White wishes Herbert was gone, and the knocking stops.
- Herbert disappears into the night, with the street lamps off.
