2005, I hiked up Mount Kilimanjaro. It got me so interested in the continent that I wanted to go back again. In 2011, while exploring the Nanda Devi Sanctuary in the Himalayas. I got inspired by one of my himalayan heroes to do something ambitious.
After some research, I figured out the best bicycle route through the Sahara would be the Morocco-Western Sahara-Mauritania route. Gathering my savings, help from friends and crowd funding, I got prepared.
I started my 2,300 km long journey from Guelmin in Morocco, also called the Gateway to the Sahara, on 27 February 2017. I had exactly 17 days before my moroccan visa expired. The race had begun!
On my way, I encountered all kinds of problems- limited days of Moroccon visa, desert storms, hostile and racist attitude of certain locals.
On the other hand, I also enjoyed the hospitality of several locals, like meeting Ibrahim in Mauritania. I enjoyed a fabulous meal cooked by Ibrahim. Before sunset, he played Malian music and we both danced and laughed together
