- Mostly at school, because of our girls.
- Oh I have to take this call!
- Right, same age, I remember.
- You know, they've become such close friends, sometimes they remind me of us.
- Nothing about their daughters reminds me of us at all...

- A couple of weeks before the last day of grade three, after recess, Mary came to stand in front of me. She silently mouthed "slanty eyes chink eyes". I was able to simply ignore her. A few days after, I won my class spelling bee and my family got a new puppy. I named her Poppy.
- One day when I'm all grown up, I'll move far away from here, and we'll never have to worry about what people think of us

- When I got home from dinner, I already knew my answer was no. I sent Rachel a text about it and minutes later, my phone rings.
- Hello?
- You're not going to do it, this one little thing? You know you're not as great as you think you are.
- My saying no doesn't mean that Rachel.
- Whatever, now we know what kind of friend you really are... You're not gonna sat anything?
- I don't have anything left to say about it.
- Once I hang up, a knot inside of me seems to unravel. The way a knot does after it's been tugged on and suddenly, just seems to come loose all on it's own
