Martin and his younger sister, Cheryl, always bragged about their grandpa to their friends but they never showed a picture of him to them. They told them how their grandpa was Native American. Martin and Cheryl felt like their friends wouldn't understand the stories they told their friends.
When Martin and Cheryl visited their grandpa in Iowa, he gave them a gift. He gave Cheryl moccasins and Martin a drum. Grandpa taught Martin a Lakota chant to play on his drums. He really impressed his friends with it.
Kids were yelling and dogs were barking around a person. Martin was confused so he walked over to see what was going on. As he got closer, he realized that the person was his Grandpa. Grandpa arrival was unexpected. Martin felt so upset.
Martin was so shocked to see his Grandpa. After they greeted each other, Martin took his Grandpa to his house. Martin's mother and sister was so surprised to see Grandpa. She wanted to hug him so bad but hugging is not the right Lakota. Martin is so ashamed of his embarrassment while his mother and sister was so delighted.
Grandpa had fainted few minutes later. Martin and his mother took Grandpa into an extra room that the mother used for her sewing. Martin watched Grandpa while his mother called a doctor. The doctors explained that Grandpa had a heat exhaustion. Grandpa was so hot and tired. Martin's mother tries to feed Grandpa soup but Grandpa refuses to eat because he doesn't like to be fed.
Later, Martin's father arrives home. The father explains to Grandpa that he needs to be fed because of the heat exhaustion. Grandpa started eating the soup and tells why he came to visit. Grandpa wanted to see his only living descendants. Grandpa explains how he got there. Martin feels proud of his Grandpa's journey while him while his family feels guilty.
