- The scene opens with Victor who wants to share his tale with Walton: "Unhappy man! Do you share my madness? Have you drunk also of the intoxicating draught? Hear me; let me reveal my tale, and you will dash the cup from your lips! Learn from me, if not by my precepts, at least by my example, how dangerous is the acquirement of knowledge and how much happier that man is who believes his native town to be the world, than he who aspires to become greater than his nature will allow." (pg 20)

- Victor realizes what a mistake he has made when he sees the Monster come to life: "A flash of lightning illuminated the object, and discovered its shape plainly to me; its gigantic stature, and the deformity of its aspect, more hideous than belongs to humanity, instantly informed that it was the wretch, the filthy demon to whom I had given life...Unable to endure the aspect of the being I had created, I rushed out of the room." (pg. 83)

- Victor returns to his home with Henry only to find the Monster gone. Months later after being very ill, Victor receives a letter from his father informing him that William, his brother, has been murdered. He knows that the Monster is responsible for the death.

- Victor returns to Geneva to grieve his brother William. In the forest, "I could not be mistaken. A flash of lightning illuminated the object, and discovered its shape plainly to me; its gigantic stature... more hideous than belongs to humanity, instantly informed me that it was the wretch, the filthy daemon, to whom I had given life. What did he there? Could he be ( I shuddered at the conception) the murderer of my brother?" (pg 83)
- Dia: 6
- Justine confesses and is found guilty of William's murder. Justine is sentenced to death. Victor is beside himself knowing he is responsible for William's and Justine's deaths."Thus spoke my prophetic soul, as torn by remorse, horror, and despair, I beheld those I loved spend vain sorrow upon the graves of William and Justine, the first hapless victims to my unhallowed arts." (pg. 100)
