Mark Watney's Explosion Scene
Storyboard Beschrijving
Mark Watney is stuck in space, on Mars. His crew mates left him thinking he was dead and to make the best of the situation, he made a plan and figured out how he could make it back home. Mark plans on surviving until the next mission, Ares 4, so they can take him back to Earth. He calculates the calories he needs each day and how long his food will last him. He concluded that his food won't last until the Ares 4 mission so he decides to plant and grow food. Mark is a botanist so he knew what to do, including using human feces as the fertilizer for the soil.
Storyboard Tekst
- Mark realizes he needs to burn something to create a fire and rummages through his crew mates' things. He finds a wooden cross, then splinters it and uses them as mini torches.
- Sorry, Major Rick...
- Mark ended up filling the water reclaimer and a space suit of his crew-mates that he repurposed as a water tank. It seemed like everything was going well. He was successfully making water.

- Suddenly, an explosion occurred. While Mark Watney was burning the hydrogen, he didn't wear a helmet or mask. He was continuously breathing and during his exhalation, some oxygen trickled out which altered the chemical makeup of the Hab enough to make it an explosive environment. He almost killed himself but he knew it was a risk to make water by using hydrazine.
