- What do they talk about?
- While drunk, Kennedy spoke her true mind to Jude. She said, "Nobody expects someone like him to be with you, do they...Your men usually like the light girls, don't they"(Bennett 281)? Up until this point, the two's relationship wasn't really made clear, but they were getting closer. The fact that alcohol made Kennedy speak her true mind says a lot about her character and racist stereotypes towards Black people. This almost cause Jude to lash out and say everything about their family's history.

- Stella loves the theater because of the countless characters she can become. Stella has "always loved the stage. Everyone watching you...You only show people what you want to"(Bennett 271). Stella uses acting as a source of validation because her parents don't do that enough toward her. But in theater, no matter the character, people always compliment her skill. not caring about any other aspect of her life. She is seen and considers it her talent.
